We would like to welcome you to our new look website and hope that it gives you a real flavour of our school. HLHS is a vibrant and high achieving 11-18 comprehensive school with a strong culture of improvement. Our values of friendship, respect, leadership and excellence drive our work and ensure that all students are known, valued and understood. In February 2011, we were visited by Ofsted who recognised that HLHS is a 'good school with outstanding features'. You can read the full report by clicking on the following link (Ofsted report).
At HLHS, we are extremely proud of our students and their achievements. High quality teaching and learning underpinned by an innovative and personalised curriculum enables all students to achieve personal and academic success. We are delighted that the vast majority of our students choose to stay in our thriving Sixth Form in order to continue their education Post 16.
As a school, we place a great deal of emphasis on students' personal development. At HLHS, we operate a fantastic Vertical Tutoring system where students are grouped into houses and work in mixed age groups in tutor time from 8.40-9.00am. A planned pastoral curriculum supports learning and promotes social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. As a result, behaviour and attendance are good.
We are delighted with the positive contribution students make to our school and the wider community. In 2012-13, we raised £13,000 for a range of local and national charities and through our extensive leadership curriculum, our students make a real difference to others.
